Virginia Beach voters who identify with the values and principles of the Republican Party Creed (limited government, personal liberty, free enterprise, equal opportunity, etc.). ask me:
Why is Mayor Dyer, who does not vote like a Republican, being supported by elected Republicans?
The question is understandable given that Mayor Dyer has annually voted for real estate tax rate increases, voted to spend annual budget surpluses, and is beholden to special interests in total contradiction to the Republican Creed.
Our Second District Congresswoman and Republican members of the General Assembly have campaigned and voted to advance: lower taxes, personal liberty and opportunity, and free enterprise. They applauded Governor Youngkin for returning a sizable portion of the state’s budget surplus, doubling the single and joint standard deduction, and eliminating the state sales tax on food.
Mayor Dyer voted against the city’s legislative package item in November 2021 to reduce the local sales tax on food. In May of 2022, 2023, and 2024 Mayor Dyer voted to increase the real estate tax rate by over 26% in total, while the city enjoyed budget surpluses of nearly $200 million over the same period. Meanwhile, families and businesses were being ravaged by inflation and lagging real wages as the Mayor's votes increased their financial stress.
So ask yourself: Why would federal and state elected Republicans who profess to believe in the Republican Creed then endorse Mayor Dyer whose voting record is in direct contradiction to their party’s Creed?
I cannot answer for them. They owe you, the voters, the taxpayers, not me, why they are endorsing Mayor Dyer whose voting record has nothing in common with the Republican Party Creed or their respective legislative track record.
As your next Mayor, I will walk the talk of our shared values and principles of limited government, personal liberty, free enterprise, and equal opportunity. I shall act independent of party power politics and monied special interests to represent respectfully all Virginia Beach residents in the most beneficial ways possible for their good and the good of our city.
The last eight years, at a minimum, have shown you what the partisan supporters’ candidate for Mayor delivered once elected. You know, from personal experience, that Mayor Dyer has lowered your personal standard of living, squandered your tax dollars on special interests, and pushed incompatible development into your communities, just for starters.
As your next Mayor, I will demonstrate just how much better and affordable Virginia Beach can be for all Virginia Beach residents when the values and principles we share are put to work.
The only endorsement I am seeking is that of ALL Virginia Beach voters who share my commitment to non-partisan, accountable, accessible, and frugal governance dedicated to reasoned judgment that serves the larger public good.
